Random Link: Jill Bennett!

Jill Bennett has a new website! With a blog and everything!

Squeeeeeeeee!

Sorry about that….

Anyway, her site is wonderful, but I have just one tiny little problem:

Jill, I have a raging crush on you, but must you write everything in lowercase? You’re not E. E. Cummings – he was really weird. Lowercase just makes it hard to read, and makes it seem like you’re words are very small and insignificant. Which is not like you at all!

Listen to this NOW!

The Girls on Girls podcast (Anne Neczypor! Jackie Monahan!) just interviewed Jill Bennett and Cathy Debuono.

Go. Listen. Now. It’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all month!

SheWired is finally here. It’s kind of a humbug.

I was going to write about nothing but politics until the election – but I can’t seem come up with anything! I think I’m just burned out on politics (can’t we just vote already?). So instead, I’m going to bitch about the world of online professional lesbians!

SheWired.com launched this week, the new home of all things Jill Bennett and Cathy DeBueono, and… lesbian media destination? It’s like they’re trying to out afterellen afterellen, except all of the non-Jill content is cloned from LesbiaNation! Great idea, folks! (Not)

The site itself reminds me a bit of good old OurChart – it’s really nebulous and busy, but finding the actual content is a big chore. The one (potential) bright spot is the forum – since it’s new, and there is a pre-existing audience, maybe it will turn out to be interesting. (That’s the only problem with afterellen – the forums are really boring!)

Anyway, they tried, but I’m disappointed. When it was announced, I was under the impression that it was something that Cathy and Jill and some of Cathy’s friends (she named names at one point, I think) were putting together on their own. That would have been pretty cool. Instead, it’s an extension of here! network’s existing stuff – and the quality suffers as a result.

Oh, well.

An aside: Why, in the name of professional lesbians everywhere, doesn’t anyone give Tellofilms some love? It’s basically a lesbian youtube – they seem willing to foot the bill for hosting, and it’s easy to use, and fast (youtube clone, like I said) Afterellen and Shewired and TheSmokingCocktail and everyone else should put their stuff on there! (But that likely wouldn’t please the parent companies, now would it?)

Another aside: I just used a record number of parentheticals in this post, didn’t I? (Yes, yes, I did!)

Semi-Critical Reviews: The Pleasure Drivers (2005)

August 3rd, 2008 by Brianna

So – after all I said yesterday about not being too critical, I’m going to review a movie I didn’t really like!

The only reason I watched the Pleasure Drivers was to see Jill Bennett <fangirl>who is, like, the coolest actress EVAR!!!</fangirl>. I wasn’t disappointed. She did a great job, and her character was awesome – but considering that her character’s story was supposed to be equal to the other two stories, it was pretty obvious that her part got lost in the edit room. (especially her !dramatic! death at the end for no apparent reason.)

As for the rest, I suspect it suffered from crappy editing too. The plot made very little sense, particularly in regards to the situation with the kid with head trauma and his guardian/friend/whatever. I suppose that she was supposed to be whacked out on mind-altering substances, or something.

Lots of people seem to think that Lacey Chabert’s character was something wonderful, but I just didn’t see it. Mostly, I didn’t understand what exactly she was doing, except for being high. Anyway, by the end I just wanted Bennett’s character to kill everybody – but since she couldn’t shoot straight (due to being angry at her girlfriend, or something), I suppose that was too much to ask.

Anyway, the one good thing about the movie was the acting. And not just Bennett. (who, let’s face it, I would love no matter what she did!) The acting was quite realistic – everybody seemed completely messed up/high/out of it to the appropriate degree – they seemed about as confused as I was.

And maybe that was the point. Life makes no since. The only way out is death. At least, that is what the closing scene seemed to point to.

So, Jill rocked, and the rest was bearable.
