Vermont legalizes Same-Sex Marriage!

April 7th, 2009 by Brianna

I’m sure everyone’s heard about this, but here’s a link just in case you’re a in-denial-wingnut. (And if you are, what are you doing here, anyway?)

This is a big deal. Really big. Why? Because it was voted in by the legislature, not ruled by judges. The (more or less) direct representatives of the people voted for marriage equality. And it’s hard to argue with that. Now, I’m sure that the crazies will try to get an marriage amendment passed, but it looks like they won’t make it. Not this time. Not with the legislature overriding a veto to pass the bill. This is bigger than Massachusetts, etc., or even California.

A huge success for anyone who likes freedom!

Linky for Jathy DeBennett

April 4th, 2009 by Brianna

I’ve been wasting altogether too much time the last two days watching Cathy DeBuono’s internet TV channel, which she (and other people who work on We Have To Stop Now) are occasionally broadcasting live from Dinah Shore. It’s laggy, has horrible quality, and the player is a bit bugged on my system, but it’s five tons of fun!

I’m more convinced now than ever that the Internet is going to take over all media. The CDB channel is using Mogulus, which is utterly free, and despite that works surprisingly well (even if it does lag a bit). Plus, there’s a chat room – which means that the boring bits are interesting, too. (Now, if only the chat worked on my machine… oh, well. I’m wasting too much time at this as it is!)

Yay! for the Internet. And for Cathy and Jill!

New Business Model for Musicians?

February 26th, 2009 by Brianna

According to NPR (and the guy’s website) a drummer named Josh Freese has a rather fascinating pricing model for his new CD. It runs all the way from $7 to $75,000.

For that price, you get:

Signed CD/DVD, digital download, T-shirt, signed drum from the 2008 Nine Inch Nails tour; he’ll take you miniature golfing and give you a tour of his favorite haunts in Long Beach. You’ll get the foot or back massage, a private drum lesson and any three items from Josh’s closet.

and

Most of the above, plus you can go on tour with Josh for a few days. He’ll also write, record and release a five-song EP about you and your life story. You can take home any of his drum sets, go drinking and play with him on his Ouija board. Also enjoy a trip with Josh to Tijuana, take a flying-trapeze lesson and then join him for lasagna.

Yeah.

The massage, the flying-trapeze, and the closet items seem a bit silly. But the lunch and private drum lesson is a good idea. It’s rather like Radioheads ‘the album is worth what you want to pay for it’ experiment. Except, this capitalizes on the high end of the market instead of the low end.

Curious.

Random Link: Jill Bennett!

January 30th, 2009 by Brianna

Jill Bennett has a new website! With a blog and everything!

Squeeeeeeeee!

Sorry about that….

Anyway, her site is wonderful, but I have just one tiny little problem:

Jill, I have a raging crush on you, but must you write everything in lowercase? You’re not E. E. Cummings – he was really weird. Lowercase just makes it hard to read, and makes it seem like you’re words are very small and insignificant. Which is not like you at all!

Listen to this NOW!

The Girls on Girls podcast (Anne Neczypor! Jackie Monahan!) just interviewed Jill Bennett and Cathy Debuono.

Go. Listen. Now. It’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all month!
