The Beginning…

So – here I go, one more blog among millions of others. Why am I doing this? What do I really have to contribute? Does anybody care?

That remains to be seen.

But this is just a first post. Nobody but me will read it when it first goes up – nobody will likely read it for weeks, at least. If you are reading this, I will assume that you cared enough to find my first post, that you wanted to know how my blog began.

Thank you.

And for your entertainment, a discussion on first posts!

I have noticed two types of first blog posts. A few just start on-topic, as if they were pulled out of the air. I suspect that these blogs were moved from some other site. Some times this is unavoidable (a large site with multiple bloggers that has been moved/redesigned many times, for example). But most blogs are not like this. A see a personal blog as a picture of the author – without a record of it’s creation, it seems… incomplete.

The other sort of first post is rather like this one – a note telling the reader that yes, this is the first post; whether the author has done this before or not, but with no real substance. I get a feeling of real satisfaction reading these posts. It’s almost as if I suddenly became old friends with the author – like I was there from the beginning.

Anyhow, I’d like to try something new with my first post. If you managed to read this far, leave a comment! Who cares about the whole ‘don’t comment on old posts’ rule? Let me know what you think about first posts – maybe link to you own first post.

Let’s be nostalgic about blogs!
